Career Paths for Barbers

Career paths for Barber

The barbering trade has evolved in recent years, opening the doors to new careers. With a growing industry, there are now several career paths that barbers can take to enhance their skills and take their careers to the next level. If you’re interested in becoming a barber, check out Shore Beauty School’s Barbering Program to give you the hands-on training you need to succeed in these careers.

Self-Employed Barber

Being a self-employed barber means that you have the freedom and control that comes with owning your own business. Whether you want to open your own barbershop, rent a booth at an existing salon, or operate out of your own home, you’ll be able to set your own hours, services, prices and build your own clientele from the ground up.  You can also work freelance, cutting hair for wedding parties, fashion shows, or other short-term jobs that can give you experience without taking up all your time.

Barber Shop Owner

One of the most popular career paths for barbers is to open their own barber shop. With experience and training, many barbers become adept at managing their own businesses, which can help them control their schedules and increase their earnings potential. To become a barber shop owner, you’ll need to learn how to manage a budget, hire and train staff, develop marketing strategies, and create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for their clients. At Shore, we’ll not only teach you the technical skills you need, but also provide business training so you can eventually own your own shop.

Barber Educator/Instructor

If you love being a barber and want to pass on your knowledge and expertise to the next generation, you may want to consider becoming a barbering instructor. In this role, you work with training schools and academies to help students learn the skills they need to become successful barbers. If you have excellent communication skills, patience, and the ability to motivate and inspire students, this might be the ideal career path for you.

Product Developer/Representative

As the demand for new and innovative hair products continues to grow, many barbers are turning to product development as a career path. This involves working with manufacturers to develop new hair care and styling products that meet the needs of their clients. For this role, you’ll need to have a deep understanding of the needs and preferences of their clients and be able to work closely with manufacturers to bring new products to market. You may also work as a product representative, selling hair and grooming products to salons or barber shops.
