Shore Beauty School’s Cosmetology & Hairstyling program consists of 1,200 hours of instruction in the art, science and business of professional beauty care. This is Shore’s most comprehensive program, covering haircutting and styling, hair coloring, barbering, skin care, manicuring and makeup techniques. During the first 600 hours of the course, you will learn cosmetology fundamentals through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice with mannequins and one another.
During the second 600 hours of your course, you will transition to the clinic floor where you will continue building on basic skills, while performing a variety of beauty services on live patrons. The beauty clinic is where theory meets practice, further developing your technical skills, speed, confidence, salesmanship, customer relations skills and professionalism. After completing 600 hours of education, the NJ State Board will provide you a Student Work Permit, allowing you to work in any area of cosmetology through your graduation.
Your experience level doesn’t matter, as our instructors will guide you step-by-step through your education. Shore’s goal is to prepare Cosmetology & Hairstyling students for professional licensing and fulfilling careers in any of the various disciplines covered in your program. The State of NJ requires a license to practice the various disciplines of cosmetology. In order to qualify for NJ State licensure in Cosmetology & Hairstyling, you must graduate from Shore Beauty School in good standing and have completed the full 1,200 hours of your program. Further, the NJ State Board of Cosmetology & Hairstyling requires graduates to pass both written and practical examinations with scores of 75 or better on each exam to fully qualify for NJ State licensing. The State Board will not schedule the practical portion of the exam until the written exam has been passed. Temporary Work Permits are available to graduates after passing the written portion of their exams, allowing them to work for six months prior to receiving their licenses.
