Shore Beauty School’s Cosmetology & Hairstyling program consists of 1,200 hours of instruction in the art, science and business of professional beauty care. This is Shore’s most comprehensive program, covering haircutting and styling of various types and textures of hair, hair coloring, barbering, skin care, manicuring and makeup techniques.

During the first 600 hours of the course, you will learn cosmetology fundamentals through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice with mannequins and one another.

During the second 600 hours of your course, you will transition to the clinic floor where you will continue building on basic skills, while performing a variety of beauty services on live patrons. The beauty clinic is where theory meets practice, further developing your technical skills, speed, confidence, salesmanship, customer relations skills and professionalism.

After completing 600 hours of education, the NJ State Board will provide you a Student Work Permit, allowing you to work in any area of cosmetology through your graduation.

Your experience level doesn’t matter, as our instructors will guide you step-by-step through your education. Shore’s goal is to prepare Cosmetology & Hairstyling students for professional licensing and fulfilling careers in any of the various disciplines covered in your program. Yes. After completing the first 600 hours of fundamentals for the Cosmetology and Hairstyling program at Shore Beauty School, you will transition to the student clinic floor for the second 600 hours, where you will perform a variety of beauty services on live patrons in a professional clinic setting.

To qualify for NJ State licensure in Cosmetology & Hairstyling, you must graduate from the Cosmetology and Hairstyling program at Shore Beauty School by having completed the full 1,200 hours and passing both the written and practical state examinations with a score of 75 or better on each exam.

Currently, the NJ State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling is allowing employer written attestations by a licensed professional in lieu of sitting for the practical licensing examination.  After working for 30 days, your employer can attest to your practical skills as a cosmetologist.

We offer lifetime career assistance for our graduates by providing a listing of available employment when requested. However, Shore does not guarantee job placement, the availability of jobs, licensure, or compensation levels.

Yes. All students at Shore Beauty School learn Shear Success Business Fundamentals, which includes techniques in building a book of business, networking, marketing, client management, and maximizing earnings.

Shore Beauty School Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 17 years of age.
  • Supply a copy of a birth certificate or a valid New Jersey State driver’s license.
  • Provide a copy of the high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Submit a completed application and required application fees.

Shore Beauty School’s Financial Aid office can assist students in evaluating alternatives to fund their education, including various programs available to those who qualify:

  • Federal Financial Aid: Shore is authorized to participate in Title IV programs, including the Federal Pell Grant and Federal Direct Loans.
  • Veteran’s Administration: The school is approved for Veteran’s Educational Benefits for veterans, eligible dependents, and active status/Reserve personnel through the GI Bill.
  • Lending Programs: Shore is approved to participate in Pennsylvania’s Keystone Student Loan Program and NJCLASS.
  • Payment Plans: Shore Beauty School also offers interest-free payment plans. These plans require an initial down payment, with the remaining balance paid in scheduled increments over the duration of the program. Payment plans are arranged directly with the school and are not based on federal financial aid eligibility.

Part of Shore Beauty School’s mission is to prepare our students for entry-level employment in cosmetology, hairstyling or related beauty fields. Shore’s active student clinic provides our students the opportunity to practice and build their skills while performing services on live patrons.

The school also encourages students, while training in the clinic, to build a book of business that can be taken with them to a job after graduation. Additionally, you will learn Shear Success Business Fundamentals, which Shore created as a practical supplement to its programs. Shear Success teaches techniques in building a book of business, networking, marketing, client management and maximizing your earnings.

The State of NJ requires a license to practice the various disciplines of cosmetology.  In order to qualify for NJ State licensure in Cosmetology & Hairstyling, you must graduate from Shore Beauty School in good standing and have completed the full 1,200 hours of your program. Further, the NJ State Board of Cosmetology & Hairstyling requires graduates to pass both written and practical examinations with scores of 75 or better on each exam to fully qualify for NJ State licensing.  The State Board will not schedule the practical portion of the exam until the written exam has been passed.  Temporary Work Permits are available to graduates after passing the written portion of their exams, allowing them to work for six months prior to receiving their licenses.
